Ellen Zelent, MSW, LCSW
“My practice starts with a foundation of profound respect and compassion. I then utilize the power of the therapeutic relationship, fostering understanding between partners, mindfulness techniques, and our growing knowledge of neuroscience to facilitate change. I am engaged, directive, patient, and I believe in finding humor and perspective everywhere. I look forward to working with you! ”
My clinical work focuses on treating depression, anxiety, and working with couples struggling with the complexities of infertility and building their family. I enjoy helping individuals, couples and families overcome life challenges by incorporating new understandings of brain function, neuroplasticity, and mindfulness practices with proven psychotherapy techniques found in Cognitive-Behavioral Theory and the Self-Leadership found in Internal Family Systems Theory. Additionally, as the couple is the emotional foundation of the family, I am committed to repairing suffering relationships and helping couples find healthy parenting partnerships.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over two decades of experience. I earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland, and my Masters of Social Work at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Post Masters, I furthered my clinical training and earned a two year post-masters certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Chicago Center for Family Health. My clinical background consists of working in the fields of child welfare, community mental health, education, clinical consultation, and private practice.
At Evolution Counseling, I also provide Clinical Supervision to learning clinicians and coordinate our case consultations across the practice. Outside of private practice I also provide corporate trainings and speaking engagements on various wellness and mental health issues, most recently “Finding Work-Life Balance” and “New Year, New Mind” addressing the importance of mindfulness practices in the workplace.
